Question about cellular antennas
Hey guys,
I have a Vista 20p with a GSMX4G installed with an antenna in the attic. I'm planning to swap the communicator out for a LTE-XV verizon communicator because Verizon gets a better signal than AT&T. My question is, can I use that same antenna with the new LTE communicator just to give it a little extra boost, or are those antennas not interchangeable? Sorry, i don't have the model # for the antenna. The new communicator should work fine without it, but i thought a little extra boost couldn't hurt.
Thanks in advance.

It might work but it all depends on the specifics of what you have. I have a repeater at my house with a Yagi antenna in the attic aimed at a cell tower and it handles LTE/CDMA/GSM/UMTS/AWS. I know with my setup a lot depends on the cable connecting the antenna as attenuation at the higher frequencies is quite high so I wouldn't just count on hooking up an antenna as an improvement. Cheap cable or too long a cable and you can loose all the benefit of a remote antenna making reception worse.

If it works fine with its own antenna..... don't extend it. I've found that slightly moving those units is more beneficial than an external antenna. A different story if the unit is in a basement.

Ok, thanks guys! If the unit works fine without it, and I think it will, i'll just leave it off.

you will have to update eventually as AT&T just announced that they are shutting down the 3G and HSPA+ 4G network in favor for 4G LTE and their fake 5GE. i believe they are upgrading it one by one and shutting off the 3G and hspa network which will be finished by 2022

I think you misread my post. LTE is what I was installing, replacing the other communicator. As an update, i decided to simply not use the antenna, as the Verizon LTE communicator received a pretty good signal.
