ITI Caretaker Plus

08/26/20

My keypad is displaying “CPU Battery Failure”.

I can’t find this issue in trouble shooting or on line.

Previously, I had two keypad police alarms go off without any reason and programmed that zone out of system.

Other wise the system is working normally.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

It's the backup battery located in the enclosure that contains the motherboard. I think it's 6V 7Ah.

CPU battery failure

Mr. RonFL,
thanks for your timely response.

Since I installed the system and had the cabinet cover off a couple of times I went back to square one.

Removing the transformer from the receptacle caused the system to go dead.

Plugged the transformer back in and system powered up.

Took cover of off cabinet and found positive cable of panel had been pulled off the battery terminal.

In closer inspection, I found that there was a plastic blob on the control panel that would actually push the battery cable off when you installed the battery.

I never noticed this before.

Reversing the tab of the positive cable from the panel and pushing it on the battery solved the issue.

Positive terminal no longer touching blob and system up and running.

I’ve made a note in the troubleshooting section of the Installation Manuel.

Thanks,

Jim

I still have a few of these units left in the field. Many have failed with age.
They get battery charge problems. The units I have use a 6v 4A battery.

Good Day, I have additional issues with panel that I would like to add.

I have an ITI Caretaker Plus that I’ve been trying to learn some wireless window/door contacts.

I can get to the “trip sensor” on the keypad, but tripping the two older and some new sensors doesn’t register on the keypad.

I’m afraid to delete and learn a known sensor in case I can’t get it relearned to see if the panel is working properly.

The sensor batteries are OK.

Interlogix makes a RF Sniffer ER908477, Model 60-401, but I don’t know if it will work for my ITI sensors to ascertain their transmitting.

I have another backup panel that I could change out if needed.

Any info/comments would be appreciated.

There was an earlier comment in regard to Alarm Panel Issues by MrRonFL;

“I would recommend, strongly that you consider replacing the control and keypads with a modern Concord panel (which will be compatible with 99% of the existing transmitters). This is, after all, a nearly 20 year old piece of hardware”.

Is it OK in this Forum to ask for specific model numbers? That said, what Concord Panel would someone recommend to replace my existing ITI Caretaker Plus?

Although it’s getting harder and harder to keep my X10 lighting working I do like that the ITI panel will turn on lights when I walk into the house and flash the lights for Burglary and keeps the lights on for Fire.

Once again, any info/comments would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

I shudder when my Caretaker customers call.

The biggest problem I've found with the older transmitters is that the tamper switches go intermittent. The switch is closed in normal operation so opening the cover or the switch getting corroded causes problems.

Certainly you can ask for model numbers.

Ok, here's a big problem: At t\he end of 2019, UTC/Interlogix ended all production of security systems. That means that your already long discontinued system is now fully "orphaned".

There are still vendors selling "new old stock", and there may be some brands out there that make adaptor boards that can read these transmitters. Not really sure. You may need to consider switching totally to something like DSC or Honeywell Vista.

All that said, the newer transmitters may simply not be compatible with the old Caretaker Plus.

Good day.

Thanks guys for taking your time to respond and give me your responses.

Apparently, both myself and my alarm system are getting old.

Please be safe.

Good Day.

Does anyone have or have a source for a GE Security RF Sniffer GE-60-401?

Be safe.

Thanks,

Jim

There isn't going to be a source. You'll have to find one in stock at a company..... maybe Ebay.
Those were rare when they were "popular".

THIS......company shows it as in stock. Not sure if they sell to the general public.

You can do as I do....... use a handheld scanner. (or a base scanner) (319.5 mghz)
