"pull-apart sensor" - what is the theory behind these

Just browsing everyone's favorite money-waste (eBay)... and ran across this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honeywell-6...AAAOSwHflf0OId ... can anyone help me understand how this would work? Electrically, it would seem to be pretty simple, n/c circuit breaks when the parts are separated, but how does it work, or how is it designed to work in practice.

I don't think I've ever seen one of these before.

It comes with two mounting blocks. Designed for overhead doors.
One mounts to the door frame and the other mounts to the door.
It's two wires carried thru. You could short the terminals on the door end and then it would be a normally shorted device that pulled apart when the door opened. You could also use it to provide a connection to something on the door.

If it was a routinely used door..... the cable would need to be reconnected every night.
