How to build an electric gate opener

we have the arm to open and close the gate, the transformer, need to know if a regular automotive keyless entery hook up will work to open and close the gate, before we buy one. Any help will be greatly appreciated, trying to save some money, the gate openers cost about 500.00, for a factory one. Thanks, Linda

If I understand you correctly, you have the motor and the arm hardware and need only the remote transmitter and receiver.
If this is the case, you need only spend about $75.00 - $100.00 for the wireless equipment.
