NX8v2 has fallen ill

Hi everybody:

Our NX8v2 panel has fallen ill ... not too sure what's wrong with it. The keypads are beeping, the fire light is pulsing, and there's a message that says "Service Required", followed by all the text areas of the keypad going dark, but then the keypad seems to be reboot, and it's stuck in this endless cycle. No changes have been made to the panel, so I'm not quite sure what's going on. Could anyone provide some direction/counsel?

Many thanks!
Michael

It's using an Alula BAT-CONNECT. There's normally a green light on the communicator, but it's not lighting up right now. I did check the wires from the communicator to the panel, and they seem snug and fitted properly into the terminals. It's a keypad emulation unit. Thanks for the help!

Mine did much the same recently, but I haven't had the time or energy to investigate. Either battery, transformer or board.

Keep us in the loop!

How old is your battery? A battery much past 4-5 years old can fail and produce effects like that.

I'm pretty sure it was replaced a couple of years ago, but I can double check and see. I tried to disconnect the battery all together and just power up the panel with the AC adapter, and I'm still getting this situation. Do I need to have the battery connected?

It's possible that you just have a failing keypad, but this is a discontinued system (Networx has been out of the market for years). So, it's possible that either the wring between the keypad and the control is damaged (easy enough to test by wiring the keypad directly to the control with known good wire). If it still has issues with the field wiring eliminated as an issue, then you are looking at starting over with something new.

A bad battery can produce some odd glitches, but the system will operate without one (it just won't be happy about it); really the battery serves 2 functions: It's the system backup power, and it absorbs the hit of current draw when the siren is triggered. As described, your problem is either a failing keypad, bad wiring, or a failing control.

I know i've had some systems that would get caught up in a continuous boot-loop because the communicator was constantly trying to reconnect after losing signal but i believe it was a wifi communicator.
