new home construction advice

I'm just a newbie to this area of home security wiring, etc. and am looking for advice. We're just starting the process of building a new home, and looking for a book that shows best ways, tools, and materials to use for wiring a home for security, home automation, LAN for computers, CATV, phone, etc..
Also looking for advice on where to find info on the best Manufacturer or type of wired home security system to install.
Thanks for any and all advice....

Wow, you're wanting to do it all. Well, if it's new construction, now's the time. There's some great stuff out there if you want to interface your systems. As far as automation goes, I'd not recommend any proprietary systems, but use something that uses common protocols. Are you doing a monitored security system, or just a local alarm setup? If you research it, you can really make it effective on a local basis, & if you can, do a hard-wired system (less expensive equipment, easier to interface with).

Good luck!
