DSC Power 832 Lockout

A friend has this system and wants to change monitoring companies. He was advised that there is a lockout code that prevents him from changing companies. How do you get around this? Any advice is appreciated.

Simple answer, you can't. Once a DSC has been locked out, the only way to unlock it is to send it back to DSC (note, they charge for this service, and I'm not sure they offer it to homeowners.) Now, on the other hand, if the system has not been truely locked out, you can default it. The way you would default an 832 is to power down (unplug transformer and battery) then short Zone 1 to Prog 1, reapply AC power (not battery, does not work) then wait for zone light 1 to light (about 10 seconds), once it's lit, default is complete. If when you power up with Z1 and P1 shorted and the panel clicks when you remove the short after 10 seconds, then the panel is truely locked out and cannot be defaulted.

Update to locked-out DSC panels (or most panels that can be locked.) There is a website that has manuals and provides downloading and unlocking services at a very reasonable rate.

http://www.tech-man.com

If you need manuals, they provide these also, but at a cost. The unlocking rates are good, but manuals can be found online pretty much anywhere for free. I wouldn't recommend buying one from these guys, unless it's one you just absolutely cannot find or maybe for older panels.
