wireing my shop for an alarm.

I am building a shop about 120 feet behind my house. I want to wire it for a alarm sy and connect it to my alarm in my house. What would be my best choice for wire. I was thinking of cat 5 phone wire in schedule 40 pvc.

how many points of protection are in your building?you should have 2 wires for each door & window.powered devices need 4 wires 2 for power and 2 for the circuit. powered devices= smoke detectors, motion detectors, glass break detectors. nonpowered devices=doors, windows, heat detectors. a cat 5 will work if you want just doors & windows and dont care if they are on the same zone.I would use at least an 18 gauge wire to compensate for the resistance, due to the length of the wire run.
