Hello. I recently got laid off in a downsizing (down to 12 people) in a 2 year venture of specialty optical fiber manufacturing facility. I have used this board for at least as long and have had huge successes from countless selfless people on this board and have contributed as I can (hopefully I am helpful). We have a 2.5 month old and the wife is going to go back for on-call (mental health counselor - they do not get paid for what they are worth). Therefore we have basically no income, 1 yr in our home, no insurance in 3 weeks, and scared.

I am looking to see if anyone can help in throwing my info to contacts you have in the industry. I have been a process engineer, senior process engineer, manufacturing engineer for approx. 8 yrs now. I have been focused on optical fiber BUT do not really want to stay in that market. I have worn the quality engineer hat and engineering supervisor hat at a fairly large facility here in MA as well.

What I do is take existing processes and make them more profitable by material cost reductions, yield increases, line speed increases, scrap reduction using SPC, 6-sigma, DOE, and other data analysis tools. I also work as the engineering bridge between R&D concpet (through profitability analysis) and into design, tooling, install, documentation, training, and signed handoff into Manufacturing.
