Work

I'm not sure where to post this so if it needs to be moved...do so.

Why is it so hard to find a job as a 1st year apprentice? I've finished school since Aug and still no luck. Is this normal?

Cheers
Todd

Todd,

The most likely reason is the health of the economy where you are.

One of my sons went to school for electrical and could only get occasional work due to there not being any major projects going on.
His last position was as a temporary helper.
He had worked six weeks installing flurescent fixtures off a scaffold all day.
He said that after a month he found that while he was walking to his car at the end of the day, his arms would somehow try to raise themselves over his head by themselves.

That's the problem...here in St. John's the construction is booming. I'm being told that there aren't enough journeymen...hence...I can't work cause there's no journeys. I guess I'm caught in a loop. But on a second note...I've even applied in other provinces as well...like NS, NB and ON. I figured I get something in ON. But nothing.

I find this very frustrating to have finished school and now I have to work so many hours before I can go back to school.

Cheers
Todd
