What exactly do employers look for in an interview?

You can read a dozen books, talk to hundreds of people, and go to lots of seminars, and everyone will tell you something different.
Do this, don't do that. You know how it is.\
Well, I have hired hundreds of people in my lifetime. And here is what I looked for. I looked for someone neatly dresses, but not over dressed for the job. I looked for someone friendly, someone I felt I would enjoy having work for me. Someone with a little sense of humor, and someone who might
be a friend to my company. If they asked about wages, days off, vacation or etc. I never hired them. I figured they wanted the perks and not the job. I always asked them what time they got up. Most companies like employees who are early risers. They seem to be better employees. Wheather they knew about the job or not or what to do if they got the job was really immaterial. I could always teach them. I hope this gives you some insight. Good Luck

Jack--you say that you never hire a person if they ask about wages? Wages aren't a perk, they are a neccessity. Do you inform the person as to the wage so that they don't have to ask? I couldn't imagine taking a job without knowing what I would be making--could you? I would think a employer would talk about wages, holidays, sick time, and vacation time.
