Insulating an Attic Door

I have read (and believe) you can save a good bit of energy by insulating your attic door since its a big uninsulated hole in your ceiling that causes you to lose conditioned air (heated or cooled). I have seen dome of the products specifically for insulating an attic door but was wondering if it would be just as good (and much cheaper) just to put a couple of pieces of foam board over the attic door. Any thoughts? The only drawback I could see is possible condensation in the winter where the foam is laid
