I know this is really dumb, but I cannot figure out the caulk gun for the life of me. I cut the tip of the caulk tube, loaded it in the gun, and pulled the trigger a bit. Instead of coming out the tip, it oozes out the back into the gun.

I read the directions on the caulk, and they mentioned something about piercing the inner seal. I tried jamming a nail down the center of the tip, but it went in and came out without touching anything.

What am I doing wrong?

Use a longer instrument, Micah. The inner seal is even with the base of the nozzle. A screwdriver will usually do the trick.

The caulk gun should have an attached piece that is meant to puncture the seal. If you can get a screwdriver in there, chances are you are cutting the hole too large (unless your are covering large gaps). If your caulk gun doesn't have the seal puncturer attached a piece of wire works well.
