door to garage - cold!!

I have a door in my laundry room that leads to our garage. The door is metal and I can feel the cold air coming in around it. It makes the laundry room very chilly. I bought some black-out drapes today and put them on a tension rod above the door. They worked great but my husband complained about easy access to the door. There isn't room to pull the curtains to the side as there is only about four inches of clearance on one side and none on the other. Any ideas would be appreciated. The room was much warmer with the curtains in place.

Install a curtain rod on the door itself. Gather the material at the top to cover the top of the door and tack the drape to the hinge side of the door. Allow enough material so the door open and closes easily.
