Railroad Ties Retaining Walls
I have lots of railroad ties retaining walls, approx 10 yrs old and they are beginning to look weathered and ugly. Any suggestions to restore? Can they be painted? Treated?

I wouldn't paint them, the cresote would cause problems with the paint's looks. You could use a dark stain. I'd probably just take a little roofing or foundation tar, thin it to a little heavier than stain consistency and freshen them up with that. Sooner or later you'll have to replace them but if they are still fairly solid you can wait awhile.
