Grass slashers
I'm in Kenya for a time and we're using grass slasher to perform grass clearing. It's basically a swing-blade, straight sickle, or what have you. Pictures can be found on the internet.
I want to purchase one or two for my own house but it'll be tricky to get them back home due to weight limits and possible customs delays. Of course, I went to the search engines and found plenty of them but none in the US. Even my faithful "strange tools" sites aren't helping.
Any clever shoppers know of a source for these simple tools?

Good luck. I've run into the same problem with a machete. Good quality machete's are cheap and easy to find in Costa Rica but almost impossible to find in the USA. I suppose I'll have to break down and bring one home in my checked luggage.
I did find some available in the US:
This one might be smaller than you want.

This might be more what you are looking for though it looks like you might need to find a handle.

Here's the slasher I'm after.

Here is the slasher I'm after. This is the African version. Incredibly efficient.
Mimi pia will have to check them in my gear after I purchase locally.
I've found good Brazilian machetes in the States at the smaller hardware stores and Amazon actually had a good selection of machetes and pangas from the few I saw while looking for my tool.

You may want to check with FedEx. They can give you a shipping price, advice and forms to complete.
Although it might take a could of extra days, but there is something to be said for not having it in your luggage when you travel. Laws, requirements can be an unforseen problem.

There's no FedEx here. DHL is the best you'll find and more than likely the friendly customs reps this side will help themselves to the goods. I'll be putting it in my gear bags vs. luggage so no worries on the commercial flights. On the commercial side, I fly dozens of times a year when I return to my civilian job. You can check these kinds of tools provided they aren't a hazard to the baggage handlers.
My reason to buy it after I return home was to save weight of my gear. Not like they weigh a ton but they're being picky to the ounce lately. If I have two, I can keep searching later and hopefully find some domestically before these wear out.

Seems you can buy clothing easier and cheaper stateside than you can the tools. Give clothes away to make up for the weight differential, pack the tools and have a good trip. Maybe I'm being too simple, but if it is that important, I'd make the sacrifice.

All of my clothes are uniforms. I can't give them away.
It doesn't sound like anyone has had any better luck locating domestic slashers. I'll keep looking.
Thanks for the good stuff.
