Crape myrtle

Early last fall I planted a small crape myrtle but I didn't protect it from the deer, and sure enough a dear passing through destroyed it. In late October or early November I bought another one that stands about 6 feet tall and planted it at the same spot. This time I put fencing around it to keep the deer off. However, here it is May in SE Pa. and the crape myrtle shows no sign of growth at all. I thought I would have at least some leaves by now but I don't have anything. Any ideas what happened or any suggestions how to fix this problem? I believe I still have a warranty from the place where I bought it. Thanks.

Rich

Can you break the ends of the shoots or are they pliable? If the latter I'd be inclined to give it more time.

Depending on the type crepe myrtle you have and your location you are at the edge where they can survive winter. It's even tougher for a freshly planted tree and then throw in a particularly harsh winter and it might not have survived.

How is the tree now ? Did you plant it near your walnut tree ?
