horrible noise from swamp cooler

we oiled the bearings, belt is firm but not too tight I guess? But whenever we turn it on the cooler makes an AWFUL howling noise! The higher the speed the louder the noise! What do we do? We don't have alot of money, hoping to do this ourselves, thanks!

The belt might be too tight. Mine works best with a little play in the belt (not more than an inch). You might try taking off the belt and spinning the fan to see if you can find the source of the noise.

First off I am a liitle ignorant as to if I am calling this the right thing. I am trying to replace the piece where you squirt the oil in. I think it is the bearing. It is on the non pulley side. I can't get the end of the shaft off. I am not even sure where to turn. There is a big lip on the shaft end that has a tiny hole in it. Is this where I turn to remove or is it further up the shaft? I have an older model swamp cooler hooked to the outside of the house. Because of my fathers passing this is my first year to set it up and get it ready. I have it figured out for the most part, but I am stuck on where to hook up the float device. My mother thinks it goes on the water line to somehow turn the water off when it gets to full. I believe it screws to the side of the cooler and in essence lets the excess water drip out when it is over full. Neither one of us are sure we are right, and I can't find anything online to tell me. If it does somehow hook up to the waterline going into the cooler, how and where? If it doesn't where does it go and how does it work? Please help! We are sweating to death!Read More
