swamp cooler vibrates

swamp cooler vibrates

I've noticed in the last year or so I can feel and hear a lot of vibration from the swamp cooler. Recently replaced the pump and now there is even more vibration. What could be causing this?

What condition is the belt in? How about motor and fan brgs? Is the motor pulley tight on the shaft? Is the fan rubbing on fan housing?

It took me a couple of days, but it was indeed the belt. It was worn. Once replaced problem solved.

Glad I could help, swamp coolers aren't hi-tech so almost any problem usually has a simple solution.

Swamp Cooler NIGHTMARE

A few years back I purchased a home and have had TERRIBLE troubles with the swamp cooler/evaporatvive cooler. I have replaced the motor. pump. pulleys. bearings and just about everything else save the housing and cage. Still the motor turns off after about a half hour on high (sometimes sooner dependant on temperature.) here is my question..... The adjustable pulley at the top (one on motor) should be opened to lower amperage or closed to lower amperage? I have tried 3/4 HP Motor without success and have gone back to the stock size of 1/2 HP. So everything is back to where it should be but the thing still goes into a slow mode on high. I think its thermally shutting down... BUT every motor Ive tried does it. And yes they were all new motors and were oiled and instructions followed. My swamp cooler has been on top of the house since 1982 and needs to be replaced. I have a 2-story house with about 800 square feet on both floors. The cooler has two drops to the upper floor. I thought I'd check here for ideas and info. 1. Where can I find info about the latest in swamp cooler technology? 2. Current cooler is 6800 CFM with 2-speed motor. That probably should work for the new one as well, or? 3. Are the newer fiber pads more efficient for cooling than the aspen shredded pads? Any advantages or disadvantages of one type over the other? 4. I heard some coolers have a "pre-cooler", the purpose of which is to reduce the water content of the air blown into the house. Is this true? 5. I am looking for a cooler made from fiberglass or something that doesn't rust. 6. What are a couple of GOOD coolers I should be considering? I live in a very small town and have absolutely no advise from the people here. Any opinions, ideas or advice would really be appreciated.Read More
