Hi everyone,
I have a bit of an issue concerning my home warranty and was hoping someone can help. First of all I have a roof mounted mastercool evaporative cooler that was here when we moved in and it just recently died on me. I called my home warranty company, Fidelity, and they sent someone to look at it. The professional came out and determined that there was nothing he could do and the best thing to do was replace it with a new one. I talked to fidelity and they said they would cover the cost of the new cooler and installation but that I would have to pay $400 for some sort of roof stand, some electrical work, and the disposal fee. My question is are these legitamate fees or are these things usually included in the installation cost? Should I just go ahead and pay, should I ask for the money that they would have spent on installation and pay someone else like Lowes who does include these in the installation, or should I argue that the charges aren't valid because they are part of the normal installation? If someone could give me any advice I would really appreciate it. I just don't know what to do. Meanwhile I'm 8 months pregnant in 110 degree weather with no air. Please help!

Your warranty is paying to replace the unit, not upgrade.
Upgrades to electrical items would not be included, not even with a big box store install, even though code may now require them.
Disposal fees are typically imposed by the state, and must be billed as a line item.

If the water tub in the bottom isn't rusted out,I don't see why it needs to be replaced. Swamp coolers are very simple and all the parts but the tub can be easily replaced. I think someone is trying to make some unnecessary profit!!
