Arrow How do I install aluminum soffit?

Just a quick question. When I install aluminum soffit, should I first remove the old wood soffit and have all my insulation fall on me, or should I just put the aluminum up over the peeling wood?

The way your soffit should work, is it should be vented, to allow air to circulate up through the attic. If the wood soffit isn't vented anywhere, what we do is cut out the wood between every 4th rafter and install styrofoam soffit vents. Then install the new aluminum soffit over the wood and the newly cut vents. I'm in northern Ontario, different areas may have regulations on how much ventilation is required, you can't have too much. Hope this gives you an idea.

Actually, there should not be insulation over the soffit unless it is spillage from the original installation.
