2x4 dry rot on bottom

Hi,
While replacing my paneling I noticed that one of the 2x4s studs that runs from the top to bottom had the bottom rotted out from dryrot. My question is how to best repair this. Should I cut out the dry rotted section and replace it with replacement 2x4 or should I take out the whole 2x4? Any help is appreciated

If this is in the run of the wall and not a corner or king stud for a door, you could sister another to the bad one. Did you find a source of water to cause the damage?

rotted 2x4

It is a king stud for the door. The water was coming from the outside, and was pooling on the wood. I am fixing that so it won`t happen again. If it is the king stud....I am guessing I should replace it all?? Thanks for your help

Yes, you will need to replace the king stud. Glad you found the root of the problem.
