do it yourself siding
#1

I am a fairly able bodied human and want to side my house. Is this something I could (should) attempt myself, or should it absolutely be done by a professional (especially as some of the jobs I have seen look very unprofessional) and also could someone tell me as to where I would be siding other than Home Depot?
Are there any other beneficial websites about siding and/or materials?
thanks,
lk

Within limits, applying siding is a diy task. Most of the manufacturers have information on how to apply their products. Sloppy work is the result of sloppy work.
Some types of siding include: vinyl, hardie board, wood, cultured stone and such.
Here is a discussion on the different types.

Once you decide which type to apply, we are here to help with the steps.

If you plan to install vinyl siding I would stay away from HD. You need a thicker siding than they offer. If you are willing to spend a little more for a quality siding the results will be exponentially better. The thin stuff sold by HD and Lowes (others as well) will follow the contour of the framing and look like the ocean (wavy). I suggest using a siding with a thickness of .046 or thicker.
