Brick to Siding Transition

I'm adding a second story to my brick-front ranch house. But, I want to use siding vice brick on the second story in the front. This leaves an offset equal to the depth of the brick. What is the best way to make the transition flush?

I'm not a contractor or a professional builder, but I would consider using 2X8s for the wall studs above the brick facade to get the wall out flush with the bricks.
Use caulked Z flashing up the unfinished upper wall under the siding and over the bricks.
Good Luck!

I agree with Mike. You need to cantalever the new wall out so the sheathing is plumb with the brick face. You will not need to flash this point as the siding can be installed overhanging the brick by 1/2" just as it is on the starter course.
