Question Instructions for vinyl siding a mobile home

Is it possible to vinyl side over existing aluminum siding? If not, what should be done in order to prepare for the new vinyl siding to be put up?
Thank you
Arlene

Is the existing siding a verticle ribbed material that appears to be in sheets as opposed to individual peices?

Mobile homes are flimsy boxes; the walls are most likely 2x2s, or perhaps 2x4s on flat. Don't expect to find 16" centers, perhaps 16" centers but it's not guaranteed.

You may end up removing the existing siding ( if screwed on) and applying a sheathing of plywood/OSB before going forward with the vinyl siding.

When you install Vinyl siding the nails have to have a slight gap between the head and the siding or when it expands in warmer weather it will buckle.Don't know how old your Mobile is but have to differ with the opinion that they are flimsy boxes. Mine in Florida had 2x4 studs on 16" centers and my Daughters is 2x6s. Codes are getting stricter from the old Mobiles. Good luck.
