Question Need to add cat door thru vinly siding

Hello - we need to cut a cat door thru the side of our garage. This means we need to cut thru the vinly siding on the front of the house. After installing the cat door, how do we put back the siding, seal it and ensure that the area will be waterproof? We have j-channel and know how to remove the siding, but are unsure how to reinstall with the cut around the cat door. Thanks.

cut the hole for the cat door and install it
next just unclip the siding the ease the installation of the J-trim
then cut the siding to fit in the j-trim less 3/8 in. for expension
you must have a vent or a window or outside outlet to see how they done it

Here's anoth suggestion. Go to a vinyl siding supplier (Lowes and HD will not carry this) and buy a large vinyl mounting plate. This plate will have a outside groove on all 4 sides to receive the siding. Then cut a hole for the cat and mount some kind of "door". We made a cat door and used vertical strips of plastic that allowed passage and also provided some (minimal) weather protection.
This mounting plate will cost a little but will give a very nice finished appearance. Good luck.
