Vinyl siding over asphalt shingles? How hard?

I have a 1 story house brick on all 4 sides, except for the eaves of the roof on two sides of the house.

The eaves are covered with old asphalt shingles. The cost of contracting out the job is approx $200 for materials and $400 for labor.

How hard is this job for a do-it-yourself-er. I am estimating I would need a total of 4 squares of vinyl to do the job.

It's very easy if you know what your doing. As with any home improvement, end result will be a reflection of your DIY talents and attention to detail.

Are you sure your not talking about the gable ends? If so, that might be the first hint of the real answer.
