Tool to maintain nailing gap for vinyl siding?

Given the imporance of maintaining a proper gap under the nails when hanging vinyl siding, I'd think that somebody has invented a tool that would aid in this. Does such an animal exist? I'd imagine it as something that's about 1/32 thick--you'd place a nail in it, hammer it down against the tool, then pull out the tool, leaving the proper gap.

Yes? If nothing exists, I bet I could make something. Just thought I'd ask...

Depends on if it's being hand nailed or not. Using a nail gun, you just set the depth on the gun and go at it. No extra tool needed.

I can't think of any tool that would make the job faster than just using your eyes and not hammering the nail all the way down.

A roofing nailer and a small compressor on the other hand...
