Repair holes in Hardie Plank

Our Hardie plank stood up wonderfully thru 2 hurricanes, but in last nights storm (60 mph winds), I neglected to take down my flag, and the wind ripped the bracket out of the Hardie Plank siding, creating a hole and a tear. How can I fix this?

Hardiplank installation instructions can be found at:

http://www.jameshardie.com/homeowner...stallation.php

This includes their recommendation for patching small holes and what types of caulk and paint are approved for use with their product.

I have used Elmer's wood filler with success. The trick is if you're doing an edge or large hole, slowly build it up over a few applications.

Hope this helps.
