Hardiplank over T-11
I have a CBS house in Florida. One end has a gable roof with T1-11 siding, bottom half of the wall is CBS. The siding is in good shape but I want a different look. Can I place Hardiplank lap siding directly over the painted T1-11, or should I put a vapor barrier between the two? If so, what type of barrier do you suggest that I use?

James Hardie Company recommends removing the old siding. http://www.jameshardie.com/homeowner...g/residing.php
You can decide for yourself on the condition of your current siding.
The vapor barrier would help keep moisture in check if it got behind the new siding. Tyvek is a commonly used product.
I would be inclined to remove the old siding.
Hardie lap siding is heavy and unwieldy to move. Moreover, it will break. It would be a good idea to enlist some help in installing it.
Hope this helps.
