Vinyl Siding Top Course Problem

I have a problem with my vinyl siding. The top course one one wall fell down in some bad weather. Rather than just shoving it back up there, I took a look at how it's installed. The part that is supposed to be nailed into for the top course is "hiding" behind the J-Channel, so it wasn't nailed, and I'm finding that it's impossible to get a hammer back there to nail it in.

Any recommendations? This hasn't been a huge nuisance, but I just want to make sure it's done right.

Put some "dots" of silicone in the bottom interlock of the siding that fell down, and snap it back into place. End of problem.

When your house was sided, they did not finish it correctly. This is not uncommon. Pop your siding back on, with some silicone, and you will probably have to put the top up into the J channel. Get yourself some soffitt nails, tack them through the top of the siding and into the wall. Touch up with a dab of paint closest to your siding. This happens more then you know. Good Luck

The last course should be crimped before it goes into the sill trim. If you nail it make sure the holes are big enough to allow for expansion and contraction.

That is the problem. His last piece is slipped into J channel, not closing into the closing strip. That is why it popped out. They put J channel over the closing strip. They probably cut the piece too short and it would not reach the closing strip.
