Question Vinyl siding over aluminum

I recently had damage to older aluminum siding and am replacing with vinyl.
Two contractors have told me that they would put thin backer over the aluminum and then vinyl siding. I don't understand (first) how this would work as the laps are different size & (second) would the value of the scrap offset the labor to remove ? (+/- 25 sq.)

Good luck with getting a few bucks out of your old siding. I'd be interested to know how much you get... seriously.

Those guys just don't want to take it off... a very common shortcut that contractors try to take. You might be able to save yourself a few bucks and do a better job if you removed the siding for them.

I doubt the scrap metal will pay for labor removing it but like Xsleeper said it should be removed. Removing it isn't all that hard.

Remove the old siding, its a must do thing. As far as the value, nothing worthwhile or everyone would volunteer to rip the old siding off.

Better yet, don't hire a contractor that's willing to side right over the top of your aluminum. Its a sure sign of poor craftsmanship if they won't tear it off.
