Offset seams on hardi siding
Have been reading all the posts I can on putting on Hardi siding. Thanks all! The only question (or I think the only questions) I have left are.... 1) What is the best way to offset the siding so the seems don't line up? 2) Would using #15 building paper be a sufficient paper instead of Tyvek? The project is a 12x16 shed and I have paper left over from the roofing.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The tarpaper is fine.
Since you have one 16' side that is longer than the hardiplank, that's where your seams will be. Usually, you just use the scrap from one row to start the next. For instance:
12' + 4'
8' + 8'
4' + 12'
12' + 4', and so on.
This pattern would space your seams out 4' horizontally, and there would be 2 solid rows between each seam vertically.
Since hardiplank needs to be nailed into the studs, you need to make real sure that your seams end directly in the middle of the stud. Mark your stud locations on the soffit before putting up the tarpaper, then chalk lines on the tarpaper so you can visually see where to nail and where not to nail.
