Need Siding Nailing Opinion
Hello-
I am going over old asbestos style siding. I am going up with 1/2 rigid foam board and then Alside Arcitectural Classics. This is the same as Certainteed Cedar Perfections. My question is this I am going with 1 1/2 roofers in the foam would that be fine for the siding also?
Thanks

I'd use 2" for the siding. Then again, if I was doing it, I would have taken the old asbestos slate siding off.

I would recommend 2" also because you're losing about 1/4"+ due to the thickness of the siding. While removal is optimum, I wouldn't take it off because of the environmental aspects of it. It's bad enough pounding the holes in it with nails. Asbestos is also a great insulator, so having it up will help with heating/cooling. Again, it would be better if it wasn't there at all, but since it is, I wouldn't take it off. And of course I have to tell you to wear a mask that lists asbestos dust as what it can filter. When you pound nails in it, some pieces will break off all together.

I would think twice about drilling
Think of it this way; If we were talking about a 2x4 here instead of shakes, which would release more dust, pounding a nail through it or drilling a hole in it?
