Vinyl siding over Stucco

Hopefully someone can help here.. I have a 1936 house that had original stucco on it. a number of years ago they installed a second layer of stucco over the first. We have decided to go with a Vinyl Siding over the complete house, but I have found that I can't nail into the stucco with any ease. The questions I have are.

- I have removed all the trim, should I strap the house? And with what? 1*4? And what should the spacing be? 16"? and how should the strapping be attached? Hilti Nailer?

- if not strapping are there a special nail that that would go into stucco?

- should I be tar-papering the house under or over the strapping in case of any water getting behind? or would that just make for an area threat the moisture to be trapped (between stucco and paper)?

thank you for any help

Vinyl over Stucco

You will not even want to know what I do with vinyl over stucco. but, I will tell you. I remove the stucco from the house, yes, strip the house down and start from scratch. Is it hard ? Yes it is. So, I am not the one to tell you what to do, but I have told you what I do. Good Luck
