Horiz. Clapboards: Assume They're Cedar ?

Hello,

Have the typical wooden horizontal wooden clapboards on house.
Definitely wood.

Can I assume that they are cedar, or are other types
of wood used, and have been used, for horizontal clapboards ?

Thanks,
B.

A variety of wood species are milled for clapboard siding.

Lumber types can vary greatly, especially by location. Poplar is often used for painted siding. Cedar and redwood are probably the 2 most common woods used in siding. Occasionally you find pine used for siding.
