How do I replace a piece of vinyl siding?
I have to remove a piece of damaged vinyl siding and replace it.
It's about 12 feet long. It's the last row on the bottom of the house. How do I nail in the new piece without messing with the row above it? I've never touched siding before so excuse my ignorance.

The bottom lip of the piece of siding above the one you want to replace is snapped into it. There is an inexpensive tool you can get at any home center that helps to disconnect the two pieces. You just hook the tool onto the lower lip and slide it along the siding to unsnap them. The lower lip on the bottom piece that you want to replace is also hooked over a starter strip below it. Once you unsnap the top piece you can remove the nails holding the damaged piece. It should just fall off the starter strip.
When you size the replacement piece be sure to include at least a 2" overlap if it butts up to another piece. You will have to notch the lower lip and trim the nailing strip to get the overlap to fit.
