house powerwash

Hi All!
I need power wash vinyl siding on my house. What machine I should rent or buy:
1750 psi, 2000 psi, 2200 psi or 2500 psi? I know that high pressure can damage siding.
In the same time I want a sufficient pressure to be able to clean it.

Greg: No matter which pressure you choose, you have already mentioned not to over do it. In addition, look into a product similar to JoMax for siding. It will help in removing stubborn dirt, mildew, etc. You won't have to use full power to rinse it down. Also, check into an extension wand when you rent your washer.

I agree with Larry's recomendation of using a cleaner. IMO it is always better to let the cleaner do the majority of the work.

Vinly over carport ceiling (plaster/cement??)

The ceiling material under my carport (of a 1957-1959 house) consist of a 1/4" surface layer of a cementitious material over a 1/4" plaster like material (similar to drywall except not as friable). Between the two layer is paper. What may be another layer of paper is located on the other side of the plaster-like material (abutting the joist). For the most part this material(s) is in good condition except that moderate damage has occurred around the fireplace. Prior to our purchase, the roof leaked around the chimney damaging the ceiling in this area. Damage is generally limited to 1 to 2 feet radius around the chimney brick. The ceiling in this area is slightly bowed and/or cracked, Over time it seem to continue deteriorate slightly and occasionally drops small crumbs of ceiling materials As I am looking to put vinyl siding beneath the carport, two options have been proposed. 1) Remove the plaster at a slight additional labor/disposal cost and place 1x4" at 2 foot center perpendicular to the joists. (This was the original plan, however, their appears to be mis-communication with the contractor who was to remove the plaster). 2) Leave the cementitious/later like material in place and cover with 1 x4 as above. Center could be reduced either over the entire ceiling material or where the material shows damage. Contractor now says he thinks this will be fine and will not require additional labor cost or an estimated $200 disposal cost) Would appreciate any comments, opinions or other alternatives anyone may have. T1-11 in Humid Climates?

I live in N. AZ and around here T1-11 is a common siding choice for it's rustic look. It is very durable in the dry climate. I like that look and want to have it on a house I am building in NE Oklahoma. I am wondering, though, if it is a suitable choice for this very humid climate. I would appreciate the viewpoints/experience of those who live & work in the muggy midwest/south. I am also considering Hardie panel but it's texture just isn't as rich as the T1-11.
