James Hardie & LP Cement Siding: Opinions On ?

Hello,

Looking into siding replacement for my house which presently has T1-11.
Live outside of Boston.

Anyone have any opinions, caveats, etc. regarding the James Hardie fiber/cement siding products ?

How does the cost compare to the typical wood horizontal clapboards ?
Installation easier, trickier, etc. ?

One nice feature is that it can come pre-painted.
Should save a few thousand there, not requiring a painting of the house.
Am I missing anything here ?

Any thoughts and comments would be most appreciated.

BTW: guess i should also ask if there are any other non-wood siding products to consider ? Heard about LP Siding. Any thoughts on this one ?

Thanks,
Bob

i am in the process of replacing my old masonite siding and replacing all our windows ( which is done , finally) , i chose certianteed weatherboard, the supplier i used recommended it over hardieplank. i bought it for $5.45 a 8 1/4" x 12' stik. as far as installing i bought a pneumatic framing nailer and installed 50%, i have just bought a roofing nailer and will finish the job with roofing nails.
this is the 1st time i have ever taken on a job this big, but it was not as bad as i had thought, actually it is fairly easy to install, i made some wooden jigs for my reveal, and had 3 extra hands on deck, 1 measured and run the nailer , 2 help hold the siding and I cut everything based on the measurements, this worked like clockwork, once we got a rythem it went smooth.
I have put everything on hold until things cool off some, there 100+degree days have been rough.
i will add some pictures of the finished project later this fall.
