One of my double windows from Lowes (special order) has about a 1/4 inch by 2 1/2 inch scuff on the mullion from shipping I guess. Maybe an 1/8 inch of it is down to raw aluminum. I asked Pella if this was repairable and they simply said to have Lowes reorder it. I'm sure Lowes won't be happy with it because they'll have an odd window to get rid of. I hate to be so picky but I paid $500+ for the window. But now I'll be stuck waiting another 3 weeks. It seemed like a simple repair. I figured Pella would simply have it fixed. I haven't even taken it out of the shrink wrap yet. Would you try to fix it or stick it back on Pella and Lowes? I doubt I could blend it in like factory new even though it is white.

I have a 1956 house that someone at some warped moment in time covered in Vinyl siding. Actually it is only on about a third of the house while hardy plank is on all but one side of the remaining house with that remaining wall being the original cedar. I apprehensively removed the vinyl expecting the worst but discovered a weathered but restorable cedar awaiting me. After running off critters that had nested under the vinyl I pressure washed on the lowest setting to clean without gouging the wood. What I saw when spraying was a small section (about 2 foot wide going the length of the house) where the sun had not yet baked off some water proofing or varnish that had pretty much crystallized and flaked from the remaining siding decades ago. My plans were to paint the cedar to mach the remainder of the house but not sure what to do about the water resisting area. I assume an oil based primer sealer like KILZ or Zinsser would be best but don't want to risk hours of work and my last few vertebrae on an untested theory. Anyone out there run across similar problems and have a solution that worked? I would greatly appreciate the advice.
