Talking Ideas to make deck "waterproof"

Hello and thanks for watching this thread. My wife and I moved to a new house and we have a deck in the back accessible from the kitchen. It's kind of a two-story deck, where the upper level is accessible from the master bedroom. However, since the floor boards are about 1/2" inch apart from each other, when it rains, we can't use any of them. We're trying to get some ideas to make at least the first level "waterproof". We know the most normal thing to do is build a roof on the second level, but we were wondering if there's anybody out there with a DIY idea to take care of this problem. Is there something out there to "seal" the grooves? Thanks!

Deck

There is available at the Big Box stores an "Under Deck" roofing system designed to be installed on the bottom of the upper deck to keep rainwater from going through to the lower deck. It is essentially a roof and gutter system installed under the upper deck. Hope this helps. Good luck.
