Proper staple gun for installing cedar shakes

I was looking for advice on the proper nail/stable gun to install cedar shake siding. I was told you need to use staples from a Senco with at least 7/16" width 1 1/2 " length but I was wonder if a porter 1/4" windth 1" depth would do?

I use the narrow crown Porter Cable with galvanized nails 1 1/2" long. Staple across the grain of the wood, and you will get better holding power, as they will tend to strip down the grain if nailed sideways.
