Get a big wire nipper and put a piece of 2x4 under the nipper to get at the right height. Grab the nails right at the top of the 2x4 and roll the nipper across the 2x4 to pull the nails out.

You'll have better luck pulling them out if you place a scrap of 2x4 next to the nail and pry on that- it will give you more leverage. And speaking of leverage, you'll have more leverage if you use a big honkin' wrecking bar instead of just a claw hammer. If you can't get them out because the head of the nail has stripped, then cutting them off with a reciprocating saw and metal blade would be fastest.

The tool that Larry linked to looks a little like the nippers I was talking about, only quite a bit better. I gave my nipper to my father in law, I think I'm going to replace it with one of those instead.

Ah, giving away the nippers. I was wondering how I could justify buying the better ones. Thanks Mitch. This design looks like you can get right up to a wall and gives a larger rolling area. Now I have to find someone to give the old nippers to, so I can create a "need".
