House Sign on Stucco

Just bought a cast aluminum house sign and need some advice. Our house was built in 1961 and has stucco with small rocks pressed into it. Can I just drill hole into the stucco to attach our house sign? Can I use the standard all purpose drill bits that I have to do the job?

Second question is I have a power supply with photo cell for our outdoor lighting that also needs to attach to the house. I do have the option of attaching to the stucco or the lower cement foundation portion. Which is better?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Dean

Dean: stucco won't hold anything for very long. It is possible your stucco is installed over foam board which is over OSB (hopefully). If there is any way to confirm this, then you can drill completely through the stucco and send a fastener into the OSB for good holding power. I would place a daub of silicone on the screw just to make sure the hole is secure from rain water infiltration.
