clapboard siding question

Morning All,

How long can you put up pretreated clapboard without painting it before the wood starts to degrade? I need to replace some clapboard and paint the whole house and can only dedicate weekends to the job. I don't mind if it is an eyesore for a few weekends to replace clapboard and once I get a chance to paint it later.

Thanks!

Pretreated wood siding has had a water repellent applied. The areas of concern are where cuts were made. Many recommend pretreating the cuts and nail holes prior to installation in order to keep water out.

Good points Twelvepole,

So, if I treat the cut areas and nail holes I could leave the clapboard unpainted indefinitely?

The clapboard will eventually weather.
