nailing hardiplank siding without nail gun?
I am going to put a few pieces of hardiplank where some masconite rotted. about 6 rows. i don't have a nail gun can I predrill this stuff and then nail it? if so should I use a masonary bit?

You don't need to predrill it, just use the spiral hot dipped galvanized nails made for that purpose. That is not to say it is easy, but doable. Now, with Hardi, you will nail through the upper portion of the plank rather than at the bottom as was done with Masonite. Check the instructions to make sure you do it correctly.

When you blind nail, as Chandler suggested, the siding just hangs there. It's weight, the amount of overlap, and gravity keep it in place in all but the highest wind situations.
If you prefer to face nail it, like your masonite is, go right ahead. just don't overdrive the nails into the fiber cement.

I don't understand how the above comment could be true, since the manufacturer's instructions clearly explain and illustrate face nailing as one of the nailing options.
