what is a MITER CUT "
I know what a miter saw is but what exactly is a miter cut? is it just a cut that is an angle, like a 45 degree angle? what the heck is it? when is it most common to use a miter saw?

Typically you cannot adjust the saw blade angle with a normal table saw. A miter saws table and saw blade can be adjusted to the right angles.
They also sell miter boxes, which is basically a plastic box with grooves and you use a normal hand saw to cut your material.
What are you trying to cut?

first off, thanks for the info, nice of you to take the time.
anyway, just confused with all these new tools.
for example, what is a planer used for?
what is a chop saw used for?
is there a special saw one would use to trim the thickness of moulding for example; cut the corner on an angle but at the same time trimming the thickness on the corner only?
