Vinyl Siding Question

guys when lapping vinyl siding,how far/deep is the lap? how far does the siding lap into the next piece? 1 inch,2 inch? what length nails are usually used in siding? 1 1/4 or 1 and 1/2?

The siding has a detent at the top that gives the proper overlap. You can leave that a little loose for expansion and contraction. Use 1 1/4" nails and, again, leave the siding loose to slide slightly to allow it to move. You didn't say if you would be driving into OSB or through blue board into studs, but either nail will do fine. Shorter is ok, too, but with fat fingers like mine, I really get tired of hitting my finger with the hammer.
