Board and Batton Shed Help...

I built a 12'x16' shed in my backyard and I'm planning on using Hardipanel with battons and then doing hardi shake shingle in the gable ends. A few questions to make sure I do this right (first time installer :-)

1. Can I use a Porter Cable Framing nailer with galvanized
2" nails to hang the hardipanel, battons, and hardishake? If not, what type nails should I use to hand nail? Any other tricks hand nail versus pneumatic nailer?

2. I've heard I need to use a ring shank nail to hang?

3. What should I use for battons, I've heard Miratec, but I'm looking for about a 1x3" batton and didn't see that size. Guess I may need to rip them from larger stock?

4. Are you aware of a hardi product for battons?

5. Any other feedback would be greatly appreciated as I'm a novice. THanks again!

b2smith,

MiraTEC is available in nominal 3" widths in both 4/4 (3/4") and 5/4 (1") thicknesses. You can find your nearest dealer at the following site and more information about MiraTEC at:

MiraTEC Treated Exterior Composite Trim Product Line

MiraTEC would be a good choice for your batten application.

Thanks,
