Nails in exterior vinyl trim molding
What is the best way to fill nail holes in vinyl trim molding - is caulk the only/best way to go?

There should be no nail holes in vinyl trim molding during normal install. Are these nail holes self inflicted after the install, say for Christmas lights, etc.? Anything you apply to the holes will give short term appearance, but over time the vinyl will age at a different rate than the silicone, caulk, etc. Which trim is it that has the holes in it? Replacing the molding is not all that difficult. Why not post a couple of pictures of what you have on a site such as photobucket.com and copy/paste the HTML code to your reply post. That way we can see what you are seeing and can offer better advise.

I'm wondering if the OP is talking about something like PVC brickmold or garage door stop or similar? If it is...I use bright white caulk for the white pieces. Seemed to hold up pretty well, but yes it will still leave a visible dimple after it dries.
Theres lots of other type trim as was mentioned.

gunguy has it right - this is a remodel job on the trim of old basement windows that is subject to moisture, no other recourse but to face nail. Sounds like caulk is the obvious and only way to go. just thought maybe there was some special type of filler...
